Resource Allocation Among Competing Innovators

چکیده
Many innovative products are designed to satisfy the demand of specific target consumers; thus, innovators will inevitably compete with each other in product market. We investigate how a profit-maximizing principal should properly allocate her limited resources support innovations multiple potentially competing innovators. find that, as available increase, optimal diversification investment may first increase and then decrease. This interesting nonmonotone pattern is driven by trade-off between risk innovation failure rent dissipation because competition. Using this framework, we also analyze nonprofit seeking maximize total number successful innovations, probability at least one innovator succeeding, consumer surplus, social welfare. A tends invest more diversely compared for-profit counterpart. paper was accepted Sridhar Tayur, entrepreneurship innovation.

Applying Memetic Algorithm in Multi-Objective Resource Allocation among Competing Projects
This paper presents a memetic algorithm for solving project resource allocation problems, where the resource requirements of each project concern numbers of monetary units and never exceeds the amount of capital available. Our objectives are to obtain the best overall result for which returns are maximized and costs are minimized. Such problem, considered as a multi-objective optimization, is t...
متن کاملA general analysis of resource allocation by competing individuals.
The analysis presented in this paper is constructed to determine the pattern of resource allocations among competing individuals of the same and/or different species in some defined habitat. Competing individuals have at their disposal various activities which can be run at different intensities and consume or produce resources in the habitat linearly. The linearity of resource utilization rest...
متن کاملResource Allocation Among Simulation Time Steps
Motivated by the problem of efficient estimation of expected cumulative rewards or cashflows, this paper proposes and analyzes a variance reduction technique for estimating the expectation of the sum of sequentially simulated random variables. In some applications, simulation effort is of greater value when applied to early time steps rather than shared equally among all time steps; this occurs...
متن کاملOptimal allocation of MRI scan capacity among competing hospital departments
We consider an MRI scanning facility run by a Radiology department. Several hospital departments compete for capacity and have private information regarding their demand for scans. The fairness of the capacity allocation by the Radiology department depends on the quality of the information provided by the hospital departments. We employ a generic Bayesian game approach that stimulates the discl...
متن کاملCompeting Allocation Rules in Networks∗
I examine a model in which two competing groups offer different allocation rules that may depend on the network of connections among the individuals that make up each group. I assume the existence of a single divisible good, such as a monetary prize, to be divided by each group. The probability of winning the prize will depend on the group sizes, but I examine a more general contest function as...
